Michele Lucchese made this etching around 1550–1560 after Michelangelo's fresco in the Pauline Chapel in the Vatican, and it was published in Rome by Antonio Lafreri. From 1542 to 1550 Michelangelo painted his last frescoes, the Conversion of Saul and the Crucifixion of Saint Peter, in the Pauline Chapel of the Vatican for Pope Paul III. Their crowded, sombre scenes reflect the deep religious feeling of his old age. It measures about 41.8 x 32.4 cm.
