About Caravaggio and Ecce Homo (1605)
Caravaggio (1571–1610) is believed to have painted this Ecce Homo around 1605, in his last years in Rome; its attribution has been debated, but many scholars accept it as his work. The words Ecce Homo, Latin for 'Behold the Man', are those spoken by Pilate in the Gospel of John. Painted in oil on canvas and measuring about 128 x 103 cm, it is in the Palazzo Bianco in Genoa.
