About Caravaggio and Madonna of the Rosary (1607)
Caravaggio (1571–1610) painted the Madonna of the Rosary around 1605–1607; it is still unclear whether it was begun in Rome or in Naples, or for whom. It was later bought by a group of Flemish painters, including Peter Paul Rubens, and given to the Dominican church in Antwerp, before passing to Emperor Joseph II in 1781. Painted in oil on canvas and measuring about 365 x 250 cm, it is in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna.
