About Caravaggio and The Fortune Teller (1595)

Caravaggio (1571–1610) painted this version of The Fortune Teller around 1595, in his first years in Rome, and it belonged to Cardinal Francesco Maria del Monte, one of his earliest patrons. The subject was so popular that Caravaggio painted it a second time, in a version now in the Louvre. Painted in oil on canvas and measuring about 115 x 150 cm, it is in the Capitoline Museums in Rome.
