About Claude Monet and Frost (1875)
Claude Monet (1840–1926) painted this work in 1875, during his Argenteuil years, the heart of early Impressionism. Monet loved the effects of winter light on snow and ice. His winter scenes — from Argenteuil and Vétheuil to Giverny and Bennecourt — reveal the blues, violets and pinks hidden in snow, frost and floating ice. It measures about 50 x 61 cm. It is held in the Museum Barberini in Potsdam (Hasso Plattner Collection).
