About Claude Monet and Haystacks: Snow Effect (1891)
Claude Monet (1840–1926) painted this work in 1891, during his Giverny years. In 1890–1891 Monet painted a famous series of grain stacks in the fields next to his house at Giverny, recording them at different times of day and in every season. Exhibited together in 1891, the series was a triumph and changed the way artists thought about light and time. It is held in the Scottish National Gallery in Edinburgh.
