About Claude Monet and Vétheuil II (1879)
Claude Monet (1840–1926) painted this work in 1879, during his years at Vétheuil on the Seine. The river Seine was Monet's lifelong companion. From Argenteuil in the 1870s to Vétheuil, Poissy and Giverny, he painted its bridges, boats, banks and reflections, often from a floating studio boat. It measures about 60 x 81 cm. It is held in the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne.
