About Claude Monet and Water Lilies (1914)
Claude Monet (1840–1926) painted this work in 1914, during his Giverny years. From the late 1890s until his death in 1926, Monet devoted himself to the water-lily pond he had created in his garden at Giverny, painting some 250 canvases of its floating flowers, reflections and changing light — works that anticipate modern abstract art. It measures about 200 x 200 cm. It is held in the Museum Barberini in Potsdam (Hasso Plattner Collection).
