About Edvard Munch and Starry Night (1893)
Edvard Munch (1863–1944) painted Starry Night in 1893 at Åsgårdstrand, the small seaside town south of Oslo where he spent his summers. It was shown with the Frieze of Life paintings, and its soft forms and dark harmonies show his move away from naturalism towards Symbolism. Painted in oil on canvas and measuring about 136 x 140 cm, it is in the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles.
