About Edvard Munch and The Child and Death (1899)
Edvard Munch (1863–1944) painted this picture in 1899. In the 1890s, mostly in Berlin, Munch developed the Frieze of Life, a cycle of paintings about love, anxiety and death that he described as a poem about life. Works such as The Scream, Madonna, Vampire and The Kiss turned his personal experiences into universal images and made him a founder of Expressionism. It measures about 100 x 90 cm. It is in the Kunsthalle Bremen.
