About Edvard Munch and The Scream (1910)
Edvard Munch (1863–1944) based The Scream on a moment he described in his notes: walking at sunset by the Oslofjord, he felt the sky turn blood red and sensed an endless scream passing through nature. He made several versions in paint, pastel and lithograph from 1893 onwards; this painted version is usually dated to around 1910. It was stolen in 2004 and recovered two years later. Painted in tempera on cardboard, it is in the Munch Museum in Oslo.
