About Edvard Munch and Vampire (1895)

Edvard Munch (1863–1944) painted this version of the motif in 1895. He originally called it Love and Pain; the title Vampire came from his friend, the writer Stanisław Przybyszewski. Munch painted the subject many times, varying colour and technique while keeping the composition. Painted in oil on canvas and measuring about 91 x 109 cm, it is in the Munch Museum in Oslo.
