About Leonardo da Vinci and Schematic Plan of Florence (1515)

Leonardo da Vinci (1452–1519) made this work around 1515. Between about 1502 and 1504 Leonardo worked as a military engineer and hydraulic planner in central Italy, and later in Rome. He produced maps, plans and bird's-eye views of remarkable accuracy and beauty, some coloured with washes to show rivers, hills and marshes — true landmarks in the history of cartography. It belongs to the Royal Collection, which holds the world's greatest group of Leonardo's drawings.
