About Leonardo da Vinci and Study of Two Warriors' Heads for the Battle of Anghiari (1504)
Leonardo da Vinci (1452–1519) made this work around 1504–1505. In 1503 the Florentine government commissioned Leonardo to paint the Battle of Anghiari in the great council hall of the Palazzo della Signoria. The mural was never finished and was later covered over, so his powerful drawings of fighting men, horses and nude figures made in these years are our best record of that lost masterpiece.
