About Leonardo da Vinci and The Right Ventricle and Tricuspid Valve (1512)
Leonardo da Vinci (1452–1519) made this work around 1512–1513. Leonardo's anatomical drawings are among the greatest scientific illustrations ever made. He studied the human body first around 1489 in Milan and again intensively around 1508–1513, claiming by the end of his life to have performed some thirty human dissections, and he combined precise drawings with notes in his famous mirror-writing. It is drawn in pen and ink and measures about 28.4 x 20.9 cm. Like Leonardo's other drawings at Windsor, it passed after his death to his pupil Francesco Melzi, then to the sculptor Pompeo Leoni and to Thomas Howard, Earl of Arundel, before entering the Royal Collection by around 1690.
