About Leonardo da Vinci and The Seed-heads of Two Rushes, with Notes (1510)

Leonardo da Vinci (1452–1519) made this work around 1510–1515. In the years after 1505 Leonardo made a series of exquisite plant studies, many in red chalk, partly as research for his lost painting of Leda and the Swan. They combine a botanist's accuracy with an artist's feeling for rhythm and growth. It is drawn in pen and ink. It belongs to the Royal Collection, which holds the world's greatest group of Leonardo's drawings.
