About Marcantonio Raimondi after Raphael and Raphael's Dream (1508)
Marcantonio Raimondi (c. 1480–c. 1534) made this engraving around 1508 after a design by Raphael (1483–1520). Marcantonio Raimondi of Bologna was the leading engraver of the Italian Renaissance. From about 1510 he worked in Rome with Raphael, who supplied drawings that Marcantonio turned into prints, while Raphael's assistant Baviera looked after printing and sales. Their partnership spread Raphael's designs across Europe. This impression is held in the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
