About Marco Dente after Raphael and Venus Removing a Thorn (1516)

Marco Dente (died 1527) made this engraving around 1516 after a design by Raphael (1483–1520). Marco Dente of Ravenna, a pupil of Marcantonio Raimondi, engraved many designs from Raphael's circle and made copies of his master's plates. He died during the Sack of Rome in 1527. The print measures about 26.7 x 17.5 cm. This impression is held in The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
