About Michelangelo and Design for a Kneeling Window (1517)

Michelangelo (1475–1564) made this architectural drawing around 1517. Between 1516 and 1534 Michelangelo worked in Florence mainly as an architect for the Medici family, designing the façade of San Lorenzo, the New Sacristy, the Laurentian Library and the so-called kneeling windows of Palazzo Medici. His architectural drawings treat columns, mouldings and windows with a sculptor's sense of mass and movement. It is in the Casa Buonarroti in Florence.
