About Michelangelo and Studies for the Punishment of Haman (1511)
Michelangelo (1475–1564) made this drawing around 1511. Between 1508 and 1512 Michelangelo painted the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican for Pope Julius II, with more than 300 figures, from the Creation of Adam to prophets, sibyls and the muscular nude youths known as the ignudi. He prepared the figures in hundreds of drawings, often studying a live model in red or black chalk. It is in the Casa Buonarroti in Florence.
