About Paul Cézanne and Château Noir (1904)
Paul Cézanne (1839–1906) painted this view in 1903–1904. The Château Noir was a strange neo-Gothic house on the road from Aix to Le Tholonet; Cézanne rented a room there to store his materials and painted the house and its woods many times in his last years. Painted in oil on canvas and measuring about 73.6 x 93.2 cm, it is held in the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
