About Paul Cézanne and Poplars (1880)
Paul Cézanne (1839–1906) painted this landscape around 1879–1880 near Pontoise, where he often worked with Camille Pissarro. Here he developed his 'constructive' brushstroke — small parallel touches of colour that build up form. Painted in oil on canvas and measuring about 65 x 80 cm, it is held in the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.
