About Paul Cézanne and Turn in the Road (1881)
Paul Cézanne (1839–1906) painted this work around 1881, during his 'constructive' period. From the late 1870s Cézanne developed his 'constructive' brushstroke — small, parallel touches of colour that build up form like masonry. Working mostly in Provence, at L'Estaque, Gardanne and the Jas de Bouffan, he wanted to make of Impressionism something solid and durable, like the art of the museums. It is painted in oil on canvas and measures about 60.6 x 73.3 cm. It is held in the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
