About Paul Cézanne and View of the Château Noir (1887)
Paul Cézanne (1839–1906) made this watercolour around 1887. Watercolour became one of Cézanne's favourite media in his later years. He left much of the white paper bare and laid down light, overlapping touches of colour, so that his landscapes and figures seem to vibrate with air and light. It is painted in watercolour over pencil and measures about 48.5 x 31.5 cm. It is held in the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam.
