About Pierre-Auguste Renoir and After the Bath (1876)
Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841–1919) painted this work in 1876, during his Impressionist years. In the 1870s Renoir became one of the leading painters of Impressionism and took part in the first Impressionist exhibition in 1874. He painted Parisians at leisure — dancing, boating and strolling in gardens — with light, feathery brushstrokes that capture dappled sunlight and the pleasure of the moment. It is painted in oil.
