About Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Children Playing Ball (1900)
Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841–1919) made this lithograph in 1900. Renoir took up printmaking seriously in the 1890s. Encouraged by the dealer Ambroise Vollard, he made etchings and soft-ground etchings and, from about 1896, lithographs in black and in colour printed by the master printer Auguste Clot, often returning to favourite themes such as hats, bathers, mothers and his own children. It is a lithograph and measures about 76.6 x 62 cm. It is held in the Cleveland Museum of Art.
