About Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Diana (1867)
Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841–1919) painted Diana in 1867 using his companion Lise Tréhot as the model; he added the bow and deer to turn a study of a nude into a mythological subject for the Salon, which nevertheless rejected it. Painted in oil on canvas and measuring about 199.5 x 129.5 cm, it is held in the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
