About Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Study of a Woman (1893)
Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841–1919) painted this work in 1893, during his mature 'pearly' period. In the 1890s Renoir returned to a softer, warmer manner, often called his 'pearly' period, with glowing colour and gentle, flowing brushwork. In 1892 the French state bought Young Girls at the Piano, and his growing family — his wife Aline, their sons and the nursemaid Gabrielle Renard — became his favourite models. It is painted in oil and measures about 55.5 x 46.5 cm. It is held in the Museum Barberini in Potsdam (Hasso Plattner Collection).
