About Pierre-Auguste Renoir and The Hat Pin II (1894)
Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841–1919) made this drypoint in 1894. Renoir took up printmaking seriously in the 1890s. Encouraged by the dealer Ambroise Vollard, he made etchings and soft-ground etchings and, from about 1896, lithographs in black and in colour printed by the master printer Auguste Clot, often returning to favourite themes such as hats, bathers, mothers and his own children. It is held in the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
