About Pierre-Auguste Renoir and The Serenade (1919)
Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841–1919) painted this work in 1919, during his late years at Cagnes. From 1903 Renoir spent much of his time at Cagnes-sur-Mer on the Mediterranean, where in 1907 he bought the estate of Les Collettes. Despite severe rheumatoid arthritis, he painted until his death in 1919, creating radiant bathers, portraits, flowers and landscapes in warm reds and golds. It is painted in oil. It is held in the McNay Art Museum in San Antonio.
