About Pierre-Auguste Renoir and The Swing (1876)
Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841–1919) painted The Swing in 1876 in the overgrown garden of a house he rented in the rue Cortot in Montmartre, where he also worked on Dance at Le Moulin de la Galette. It was shown at the third Impressionist exhibition in 1877 and later entered the French national collection through the bequest of Gustave Caillebotte. Painted in oil on canvas and measuring about 92 x 73 cm, it is held in the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.
