About Raphael and Angel (1501)
Raphael (1483–1520) painted this work around 1500–1501, when he was about seventeen, as part of the altarpiece of Saint Nicholas of Tolentino for the church of Sant'Agostino in Città di Castello. The altarpiece was badly damaged in an earthquake in 1789 and cut up; only a few fragments survive. Painted in oil on panel, it is held in the Pinacoteca Tosio Martinengo in Brescia.
