About Raphael and Saint George and the Dragon (1506)

Raphael (1483–1520) painted this work around 1506, probably for Guidobaldo da Montefeltro, Duke of Urbino, who had been made a Knight of the Garter by King Henry VII of England. The tiny painting is a masterpiece of miniature detail. Painted in oil on panel and measuring about 28.5 x 21.5 cm, it is held in the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
