About Raphael and Study of a Reading Madonna and Child (1509)

Raphael (1483–1520) made this drawing around 1509. Raphael was one of the finest draughtsmen of the Renaissance. He prepared his paintings through many drawings — quick pen sketches, careful chalk studies of figures from life and full-size cartoons — and his drawings were collected and admired even in his own lifetime. It is held in the Albertina in Vienna.
