About Raphael and The Procession to Calvary (1504)
Raphael (1483–1520) painted this work around 1504. Raphael was born in Urbino in 1483, the son of the court painter Giovanni Santi. As a young man he worked in Umbria in the circle of Pietro Perugino, absorbing his graceful figures and calm, balanced compositions, and by about 1500 he was already receiving altarpiece commissions of his own. It is painted in oil.
