About Rembrandt van Rijn and Jan Lutma, Goldsmith (1656)
Rembrandt van Rijn (1606–1669) made this etching in 1656. In the 1650s, despite growing financial troubles, Rembrandt made some of his most daring prints. Working more and more in drypoint, he printed on Japanese paper and vellum, varied the inking from one impression to the next and boldly reworked his plates, so that each impression could feel like a unique work of art. This impression is held in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
