About Rembrandt van Rijn and Moses with the Tablets of the Law (1659)

Rembrandt van Rijn (1606–1669) painted this work in 1659, during his late period in Amsterdam. It illustrates the moment Moses comes down from Mount Sinai, either presenting the law to the people or about to break the tablets in anger at the golden calf. Painted in oil on canvas and measuring about 168.5 x 136.5 cm, it is held in the Gemäldegalerie in Berlin.
