About Rembrandt van Rijn and Self-Portrait with Saskia (1636)

Rembrandt van Rijn (1606–1669) made this etching in 1636, two years after marrying Saskia Uylenburgh, the cousin of his Amsterdam art dealer. The couple lived through the happiest and most successful years of his career together, before Saskia's early death in 1642. The small plate measures only about 10 x 9 cm. This impression is held in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
