About Rembrandt van Rijn and Shah Jahan and Dara Shikoh (1656)

Rembrandt van Rijn (1606–1669) made this drawing around 1656–1661. In these years he made a series of more than twenty drawings after Mughal miniature paintings that had arrived in Amsterdam through the Dutch East India Company — a rare meeting of European and Indian art. Drawn in pen and brown ink with wash and measuring about 21.3 x 17.8 cm, it is held in the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles.
