About Rembrandt van Rijn and The Entombment (1654)
Rembrandt van Rijn (1606–1669) made this etching around 1654. In the 1650s, despite growing financial troubles, Rembrandt made some of his most daring prints. Working more and more in drypoint, he printed on Japanese paper and vellum, varied the inking from one impression to the next and boldly reworked his plates, so that each impression could feel like a unique work of art. The print measures about 21.1 x 16 cm. This impression is held in The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
