About Rembrandt van Rijn and The Leper (1629)
Rembrandt van Rijn (1606–1669) made this etching around 1629. Rembrandt began etching in Leiden in the late 1620s. In these early years he made dozens of small plates of beggars, street figures, his mother and his own face pulled into exaggerated expressions — quick studies that helped him master light, character and emotion. This impression is held in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
