About Rembrandt van Rijn and The Quacksalver (1635)
Rembrandt van Rijn (1606–1669) made this etching in 1635. After settling in Amsterdam in the early 1630s Rembrandt made etching a central part of his art, producing ambitious biblical prints, portraits of friends and preachers, and intimate sketches of Saskia, whom he married in 1634. He experimented constantly with the copper plate, printing it in different states as he reworked the design. This impression is held in the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
