About Rembrandt van Rijn and The Rat-Catcher (1632)
Rembrandt van Rijn (1606–1669) made this etching around 1632. After settling in Amsterdam in the early 1630s Rembrandt made etching a central part of his art, producing ambitious biblical prints, portraits of friends and preachers, and intimate sketches of Saskia, whom he married in 1634. He experimented constantly with the copper plate, printing it in different states as he reworked the design. The print measures about 14 x 17.6 cm. This impression is held in the Dallas Museum of Art.
