About Rembrandt Workshop and A Girl with a Broom (1646)
This painting is catalogued as a work of Rembrandt's workshop, possibly by his gifted pupil Carel Fabritius. It was painted around 1646. The year 1642, when Rembrandt completed The Night Watch, was also the year his wife Saskia died, leaving him with their infant son Titus. In the following decade his paintings became quieter and more inward, with warm, glowing colour and deep shadow, and from the late 1640s Hendrickje Stoffels became his companion and model. It is painted in oil on canvas and measures about 107.3 x 91.4 cm. It is held in the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
