About Vincent van Gogh and Apples (1887)
Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890) made this painting in September 1887. From March 1886 to February 1888 Van Gogh lived with his brother Theo in Paris. There he met the Impressionists and younger artists such as Toulouse-Lautrec, Émile Bernard and Paul Signac, discovered Japanese prints, and transformed his dark Dutch palette into bright, broken colour. It is held in the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.
