About Vincent van Gogh and Beach at Scheveningen
This drawing is by Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890). In The Hague, between 1881 and 1883, Van Gogh taught himself to draw by studying ordinary working people — orphans, labourers, fishermen and the poor — in pencil, chalk and watercolour, and received his first painting lessons from his cousin by marriage, Anton Mauve.
