About Vincent van Gogh and Fisherman (1883)
Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890) made this painting in 1883. In The Hague, between 1881 and 1883, Van Gogh taught himself to draw by studying ordinary working people — orphans, labourers, fishermen and the poor — in pencil, chalk and watercolour, and received his first painting lessons from his cousin by marriage, Anton Mauve. It is painted in oil. It is held in the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo, the Netherlands.
