About Vincent van Gogh and Irises (Garden) (1889)
Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890) painted Irises in May 1889, in his first week at the asylum of Saint-Paul-de-Mausole in Saint-Rémy; he called painting a kind of lightning conductor for his illness. In 1987 it became the most expensive painting ever sold at the time. Painted in oil on canvas and measuring about 74 x 94 cm, it is in the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles.
