About Vincent van Gogh and Path in the Garden of the Asylum (1889)

Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890) made this painting in November 1889. In May 1889 Van Gogh voluntarily entered the asylum of Saint-Paul-de-Mausole at Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. Despite periods of illness he painted around 150 canvases there — olive groves, cypresses, wheat fields, the asylum garden and colourful interpretations of works by Millet and other artists he admired. It is painted in oil. It is held in the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo, the Netherlands.
