About Vincent van Gogh and Roses (1889)

Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890) made this painting in 1889. In February 1888 Van Gogh moved to Arles in the south of France, looking for the light and colour he associated with Japan. In just over a year he painted orchards, harvests, sunflowers, portraits and night scenes there, and in the autumn of 1888 he shared the Yellow House with Paul Gauguin. It is painted in oil and measures about 33 x 41.3 cm. It is held in the National Museum of Western Art in Tokyo.
